SGP planning win for all-affordable housing scheme in Bromsgrove
Stephen George + Partners (SGP) is delighted with the progress being made on site for 60 units of affordable and shared ownership housing off Perryfields Road on the edge of Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.
Working closely with specialist developer Living Space Housing and planning consultants PDR Developments, SGP has designed the new homes to complement the surrounding 1,330 housing development known as BROM2, as well as the existing residential character of the area.
Ideally situated close to existing local amenities including shops and schools, the 1.73 hectare site will deliver a mix of one, two, three and four bedroom dwellings to accommodate a broad range of family types.
Explains Kumar Muniandy, Studio Director: “This parcel of land has been set aside for social and affordable housing and is a significant development for the area. With land prices so high, our brief was to deliver the number of dwellings needed whilst designing high quality homes and creating a feeling of space and openness.”
Paul Breen, Managing Director of Living Space said: “We are delighted that our plans for this quality bespoke development have been given the green light by Bromsgrove District Council. There is a substantial unmet housing need within Bromsgrove and the surrounding area, with many people who work in the District commuting in. Bromsgrove’s Strategic Housing Market Assessment requires substantial new home delivery – including 219 new affordable homes per year – so highly sustainable schemes such as this need to be brought forward as soon as possible.”
SGP approached the design in a simplistic and modern way that sits comfortably with the wider Bromsgrove housing style. The design team faced challenges during the planning stage such as surrounding contacts, massing issues and highway codes to meet the density and viability of this development.
Concludes Kumar: “Perryfields is another example of SGP’s ability to visualise a site and its context and develop, in close collaboration with our clients and local stakeholders, a financially viable, quality scheme that meets the needs of the area in a pleasing and practical fashion.”
