Automated design brought to the fore with new move
We are delighted to announce that Jack Cole has moved from Leeds to our London office where he will add his automation skills to the Worship Street team. Jack’s post has expanded from that of architectural technologist to embrace a complementary role in process and design automation. The remit of the group is Research & Development and to implement technology, workflow and resource within the practice to enable us to operate more efficiently, with reduced risks, and increasing the scope of design output. Jack will be working with the BIM team developing smarter ways of working with Revit using Dynamo and Grasshopper visual programming tools.
Explains Jack: “I’ll be focusing on improving our use of design programmes, reducing errors, improving efficiency and exploring new avenues to achieve a design. I’ve used both Dynamo and Grasshopper in designing the Butterfly bench for York Teaching Hospital and the Flower Tower, SGP’s biomimetic concept skyscraper.”
Grasshopper is a powerful tool that is very process focused especially on the geometric side of automated design. It allows a user to rescript elements and re-use them in other designs. Dynamo is excellent for speeding up the process of design, improving efficiency and automating repetitive tasks. Graphs can be saved and reused, and shared with colleagues.

Now the tools are within the grasp of almost every practice and we’re rising to the challenge, with the emphasis on refining the process, improving efficiency and allowing more time to focus on clients and design.”
