SGP completes build for new Popeye’s restaurant and drive-thru
Stephen George + Partners (SGP) has completed the base build for a new 240 sqm Popeyes Fast Food Restaurant with drive-thru at Teal Park, a popular mixed-use development on the eastern edge of Nottingham. The scheme includes access, parking, landscaping, drainage requirements, and all associated earthworks.
Explains Barrington King, Associate at SGP: “We worked closely with Popeyes’ architects to deliver a distinctive base build that meets their brand requirements as well as the stringent needs of a busy restaurant and drive-thru’. The basic rectilinear form uses white brick slips, enlivened by dark timber effect aluminium cladding, and Microrib cladding of a contrasting mid grey to enclose the service areas of the building. Full height glazing to the main entrance and restaurant area greets the customers and varied parapet heights create an eye-catching roof scape, delivering on Popeyes requirement for a high-quality built environment.”
The 1.3 acres (0.53 hectares) Popeyes site forms an integral part of the local centre and has an excellent position, on a corner plot by the Colwick ring road and close to residential areas, retail and employment units.
Teal Park has been jointly developed by Warwickshire-based AC Lloyd Commercial and Nottingham-based Henry Davidson Developments, and has seen substantial success in acquiring tenants including ALDI and Storage Giant. SGP worked alongside the contractor AKN Build to deliver the base build for Popeyes, which opened its doors on Monday 14th October 2024.
Popeyes was founded in New Orleans in 1972 and is known for serving delicious American Southern-style chicken dishes, seafood and sides. The fried chicken giant aims to become a major player in the UK fast food industry, having opened its first drive-thru in the UK, in Rotherham, in 2021, and with a goal of opening 350 sites in the UK within 10 years.
