SGP expands London office with new Director
Stephen George + Partners (SGP) is excited to announce the appointment of a new Studio Director for its expanding London office. Kevin Kelly joins the AJ100 practice from BDP and will focus on healthcare and the heritage & culture sectors, bringing significant experience in the historic building environment.
Explains Kevin: “Many buildings of high heritage value are poorly suited to modern usage. Working with clients like the Royal Albert Hall has given me the experience and skills to unlock potential in existing buildings by designing key interventions to improve the feel and operation. Sometimes what may seem like a minor change, such as relocating an existing staircase, can bring significant improvements to the facilities and experience for clients, staff and public. It is essential to delicately balance modernisation whilst upholding the identity and integrity of existing heritage assets.”
Kevin has previously worked for BDP, Pringle Richards Sharratt Architects and Heatherwick Studio, delivering a broad range of projects through all RIBA stages, managing multiple teams and working closely with high-profile clients to achieve quality and delivery on time. He has been involved with projects ranging from a new signature building for Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Military field hospital NHS Nightingale, to an extension to the Royal Albert Hall and a float for Architecture LGBT+ at London Pride.
Continues Kevin: “I joined SGP because I connected with the ethos and really liked the people – their openness, professionalism and willingness to embrace new ways of working are exciting. As a ‘superuser’, I have specialist knowledge of digital tools and software, allowing me to increase efficiency and accuracy in project delivery. Using my hand drawing skills is a good way to enhance communication with the client and project team – immediately allowing architectural visions to be shared by all involved.”
Concludes Michael Barker, Senior Partner at SGP: “We are delighted to welcome Kevin to SGP. The expansion of our London office, with Kevin’s appointment, indicates our steadfast commitment to our existing customers in the south east, as well as our drive to develop new business and sectors. Kevin brings a passion for outstanding design, married with a complete grasp of the practicalities of working in heritage, culture and healthcare sectors.”
