SGP celebrates double appointment to BIM champions

Stephen George + Partners (SGP) is delighted to announce that James Blood has been appointed as Business Manager on the Committee of buildingSMART’s UK and Ireland chapter. In addition, James has also become a member of BSi’s B/555 committee whereby he has been nominated as their UK expert on product data. James will be taking on these roles in addition to his normal work as SGP’s BIM Manager.
Explains James: “This is an incredible double honour. I’ve worked in the BIM field for over 10 years and have seen how the use of technology and data has developed and expanded during that time. It is both exciting and humbling to hold these important roles at a time when the digital landscape is accelerating towards new ideas and applications, such as ‘Smart Asset Management’ & ‘Digital Twins’.
B/555 is the BSI’s committee which oversees the development of standards for construction design, modelling and data exchange. With many standards being driven into the global marketplace, James’ appointment as UK expert means he will be promoting and representing the UK’s position on the development of BIM standards on the international stage.
buildingSMART is a global not-for-profit organisation whose aim is to modernise construction using digital, structured data, to improve efficiencies and minimise waste. James’ role as Business Manager on the committee of the UK & Ireland chapter, will be to engage with the built environment sector, to understand their needs and champion them at an international level, including feeding into the relevant standards. Specifically, James is the UK lead for the group working with construction product manufacturers, as well as offering BIM related advice and support for important strategic projects, such as healthcare assets coming through BIM4Health and the HIP1 programme.
Says Marcus Madden-Smith, Partner at SGP “James’ unquestioned knowledge and experience in the digital arena has already delivered value for SGP’s clients, with improved efficiencies and better communications throughout the design and build process. We see these notable appointments as a validation of James’ expertise and experience in the BIM sector, and a welcome, if unexpected, outcome of SGP’s investment in digital systems and their benefits.”
