Latest units completed at popular Rugby logistics park
Stephen George + Partners (SGP) is making good progress delivering the latest units on Symmetry Park, Rugby, bringing the total logistics space on the 111-acre Tritax site to almost 1,900,000 sqft. Phase 1C, comprising two units of 394,640 sqft and 251,281 sqft, has recently reached practical completion and Phase 1B has started on site and will include three warehouses of 390,000 sqft, 338,000 sqft and 170,000 sqft. All the units will have internal office space and associated infrastructure including lorry parking, car parking and landscaping with permanent landscaped mounds and sustainable drainage details.
Says Arshad Khan, Studio Director at SGP: “In addition to being designed in line with Tritax Symmetry’s commitment to being net zero carbon in construction, the units will target BREEAM Excellent and EPC A+ ratings. Their high quality and design standards will create a positive sense of place to attract first-rate tenants and staff. Iron Mountain, a global leader in storage and information management services, has already signed for four of the units on site.”
Horizontal and vertical profiled cladding systems add texture to the warehouse facades and flat panels with elegant full height glazing emphasise the office entrances. A selection of recessive and neutral colours will be used to reduce the impact of the warehouse buildings upon the surrounding environment, whilst stronger colours for feature bands, flashings, fascias and glazing at lower levels offer contrast and relief, and to create some individuality for occupiers.
The green spaces around the warehouses have been given equal attention, with existing hedges and trees enhanced with additional native planting and shrubs. In addition to underground attenuation tanks, swales dotted across the site will help slow rainwater run off and add to the attractiveness of the development. Space has been allocated for outdoor amenity areas, which can be customised to meet tenants’ individual requirements.
Concludes Arshad: “We are delighted to have designed this quality scheme on such an established and regionally significant distribution and manufacturing location. The Park sits beside the important M45/A45 highway link, and at the heart of the logistics ‘Golden Triangle’ network. It forms part of the wider South West Rugby Urban Extension which is due to provide up to 5,000 new homes, creating a sustainable development where homes and jobs are delivered in parallel.”
The contractor is Winvic, and the three units of Phase 1B are expected to complete in Q3 2024.
