The project site is a part of a development initiative by Loughborough University as an extension of their campus. LUSEP established an Outline Planning Consent status to provide the context for future development of individual site plots.
The layout and building orientation create a focal point and clear hierarchy of spaces when approaching the building and the building is anchored within a strong landscape structure which responds to the existing site context. The building form is part three/part four storey with a screened plant area at roof level. An external terrace on the third floor overlooks a mature woodland backdrop.
The new office building follows the ethos of the Science and Enterprise Park by using high quality materials and finishes to create a distinctive structure, designed as strong focal point in the growing university campus. Externally, the glazing and cladding combines to present a form that relates positively to its surroundings. Internally, the flexible office space will welcome staff and visitors with a three-storey atrium incorporating a feature staircase.
“SGP were the architectural firm whom the County Council worked closely with for 3 years during the inception, design and construction phases of an 80,000 sqft Grade A BREEAM very good office building which was delivered in October 2020. The SGP Team were fully engaged throughout the process and were a pleasure to work with. Nothing was ever too much trouble and the end result was a stunning building with many architectural features that we are all very proud and honoured to have been involved with.”
Andrea Hopkins, Leicestershire City Council
SGP was part of the design and construction team, delivering the office building as a BIM Level 2 Project with BIM having been a requirement from RIBA stage 3, with the data drops occurring from RIBA stage 3 onwards.
